Earth Day Reflections and a Week to Remember at Gold Lion Farm

Hi there, I’m Cameron Thompson, and I’d like to share a bit about what’s been happening here at Gold Lion Farm. This past Earth Day week was notably busy, filled with the kind of work and moments that underscore why I love running Gold Lion Farm.

Birding has been a part of my life since I was a kid. It's always been more than a hobby for me—it's a way to connect with nature on a deeper level. That’s why we organized migratory bird walks at Indian Springs State Park. It's quite something to watch folks get their first glimpse of bird migration in action. It’s a quiet, simple pleasure that speaks volumes about the beauty of our natural world.

Springtime on the farm means getting our hands dirty — quite literally. We've been busy with the usual seasonal upkeep: fixing up the greenhouse after it took a beating from winter storms, and making sure our fruit trees are well-fertilized. I’m relieved to say that, unlike last year, the late winter weather was gentle on us. Our peach, mulberry, apple, pear, and paw-paw trees are all thriving, promising a good yield.

Amidst these tasks, our business has been expanding. Our products are now reaching folks all the way from the Atlanta Hartsfield Airport to Jungle Jim’s in Ohio, and beyond. The feature in Garden and Gun Magazine took us by surprise — in a good way. Orders flooded in from places as diverse as San Francisco to Charleston, New York City to Maine. It was non-stop, and honestly, a bit overwhelming. For a small outfit like ours, each new customer and each order is a big deal. It’s exhilarating to grow, but it does make me a tad nervous, but with great excitement for the future. Every purchase you make is an investment in our team, in our local farmers, and it’s changing our lives.

We've managed to catch our breath now, and today, I’m taking a rare day off. I’m looking forward to reviewing some new packets that just came in, spending some downtime with our dog Bowie, and yes, doing a bit of planning for what’s next for Gold Lion Farm.

Thanks for being with us on this journey. Your support is what keeps us going, and it’s changing things in more ways than you might imagine.

Best,
Cameron
